SoHo, which stands for “South of Houston,” is bordered by Houston to the North, Lafayette on the East, Canal Street on the South, and Varick Street on the West. The neighborhood has beautiful cast-iron architecture and was once home to artists communities who lived in expansive lofts. Today the neighborhood has gentrified, but there is still some of the old artsy character.
Today, the Northern half of SoHo is where most of the boutiques, shops, and restaurants are, including may chain store that have moved in. The Southern part of the neighborhood still has a bit of a fringe feeling, including some factories. Great meals can be found throughout the neighborhood, as well as to the East, in Little Italy, and to the South, in Chinatown.
