United Nations - The quintessential upper-class New York City neighborhood, this laid back area is populated by doctors, lawyers and diplomats. Although it is a less "active" neighborhood than SoHo or Greenwich Village, its convenient location more than compensates for the low key lifestyle. While the neighborhood does not have precise geographical boundaries like many others do, it is generally considered to lie between 34th Street, 59th Street, Fifth Avenue and the East River.

The big attraction in this neighborhood is, of course, the United Nations. Many world-famous hospitals, such as the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital and Cancer Center, are also located here, as are the lofty buildings of Park Avenue, the expensive shops along Fifth Avenue and famous New York transportation hub, Grand Central Station. The Bloomingdale's flagship store is right at the center of the neighborhood as well.

Depending on where in the neighborhood you are located, the distance to the nearest subway station may range from a few steps to a 15-minute walk. Most residents tend to make heavy use of taxicabs, which are certainly plentiful.

Also within walking distance is the beautiful East River Promenade, a popular area for local families and tourists alike.
